Working in a client space that includes music (Old 97’s, Fuzzy Math, 3 Strings), entertainment (China Wood Productions, Loud Whisper), silicon valley (Little Passports), and publishing (Penguin Books, Uncivilized Books), Johnson also dedicates time to schools and education, and teaches design, typography, comics and illustration at MCAD and Augsburg University.
As an independent illustrator Johnson has worked for magazines such as Bloomberg Businessweek, Bloomberg Travel, Chow, Entertainment Weekly, GQ, Los Angeles Magazine, Maxim, Mother Jones, The New York Times, New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, New Republic, Newsweek, Nick Magazine, Nozone, Readymade, Resist!, Rolling Stone, Runners World, Village Voice and Wired.
As long-time Associate Creative Director for Charles S. Anderson Design Company, Johnson produced advertisements, social media and elaborate promotions for the one-of-a-kind French Paper Company. Other client work included; Target Halloween, NikeTown, Coca-Cola, CustomInk, Halifax Health, Speck products, dwinQ, CSA Images and Pop Ink Brands. This work has earned design and advertising awards from The One Club (Gold) and AIGA National, AIGA Minnesota, Communication Arts, Graphis, HOW and Print magazines.
E. Eero Johnson - Johnson’s nom du crayon - has authored the graphic novel Tsu and the Outliers (ODOD Books), the experimental comic Kozmo-Knot (Uncivilized Labs), and the collaboration (graphic + novel) Original Fake with author Kirstin Cronn-Mills (J.P. Putnam Sons / Penguin). He’s created book jacket and cover artwork for Knopf, Night Shade Books, Penguin Books, St. Martin’s Press.
